In 2019, five years after Rupi Kaur published one of her bestselling books, I began reading poetry again. My friend raved about how the book Milk and Honey helped her overcome a tough time in her life. So, I began doing research about the book and the author. I decided to purchase Milk and Honey for the purpose of healing. Through reading her poetry collection, I found so much more. In each one of Rupi Kaur’s books, she uses femininity as her superpower and emotions to activate it.
5 Reasons Why Rupi Kaur is an Inspiration
She uses her vulnerability as a strength instead of a weakness. We are taught to be strong, and because of this, so many people suffer in silence. She writes about falling to the lowest depth and then rising again. I enjoy the way she expresses herself unapologetically.
She helped revive poetry. In the year 2015, it was said that 6.7% of Americans had read a poem in the previous year. In the year 2014, She was inspired to release her self-published book, Milk and Honey. One of the best decisions she made in her career.
She is Creative. Rupi Kaur’s poetry collections include personal illustrations that she created. The line drawings accompanying her poems make each page magical.
Her writing is empowering. She embraces her femininity and writes deeply about her experiences as a woman. She dives into her sexuality without a filter.
Rupi Kaur is fearless. She is not afraid to speak her mind and stand up to patriarchy, she talks about culturally taboo topics. She shares her story as an immigrant and as a victim of sexual assault.
Amongst the many other reasons Rupi Kaur is one of the bestselling authors in her category, her writing is relatable to women. Her books take readers through a journey of emotions I have gone through, and many others have too. She inspires me to write every day.
