Happy first anniversary to The Open Narrative! If I’ve learned one thing from having a website for one year, I can do more than I imagined.
Starting a blog has forced me to leave my comfort zone and share. I’ve never created a website, designed one, or published pages. I entered a whole new world of technology. Tech support is my lifeline.
Additionally, I left my comfort zone because I never shared the poetry I had written before creating a blog. At first, it was awkward saying, “I have a blog,” and even more awkward saying, “I write poetry.”
Contrary to how I believed people would respond, I received positive feedback. After a year of blogging, talking about my blog feels natural. The Open Narrative feels like a part of me. I love discussing poetry and printing.
4 Things Will push you through one year of creating
- Researching your interests. Much like traffic does not build overnight, neither do ideas. You may find yourself up during sleepless nights reading and watching videos. Taking solo trips to the public library, and ultimately researching ideas compatible with your interest will help.
- Promoting yourself. “Dreams don’t work unless you do.” It’s rare that someone will stumble upon your material and feel compelled to stay without you encouraging them. You must talk about what you do and why, and SHARE, SHARE, SHARE.
- Post! even when traffic is low. Traffic does not build overnight, and building takes a while. So, strive to make posts that resonate with others and about topics that make you feel good as the creator. Occasionally, you will receive a comment or feedback.
- Be okay with being an amateur. You will notice mistakes and typos. In the beginning, It may make you freak out but relax! Making mistakes is part of the process!
Overall, creating has forced me out of my comfort zone. I find myself putting myself out there more and talking about what I’m passionate about. The possibilities are endless. Who knows where The Open Narrative will continue to take me. I’ve already done more than I’ve ever imagined. I am capable of more than I knew, and I believe we all are capable of more than we know.
